CEO & Practice Head: ENGAGE Leadership

Andy is the co-founder and CEO of ENGAGE. He has worked for ENGAGE since 2008 and, in 2013, co-led an MBO of the firm.

Andy leads all of our strategic work with senior executives and heads our Leadership practice. He works with CEOs, boards and executive teams in FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 firms, as well as with a range of fast-growing entrepreneurial start-ups.

Prior to this, Andy worked in the research and consulting industry for 25 years. He was previously a Partner at Mercer Consulting, a Global Practice Leader at The Empower Group (the strategic consulting division of Manpower), Managing Director of YouGov Consulting and Head of Research at The Gallup Organization.

Andy holds a doctorate in survey analytics from the University of Oxford where he also obtained his undergraduate degree in PPE and an MSc. in sociological research and statistics. He has also been a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University.

Andy is married to Sarah, has two teenage children (Daisy and Joey), plus one permanently sleeping cat, Marple and lives in Blackheath, London. He is a long-suffering Sunderland fan (by reason of birth, rather than choice) and is still learning to play the drums.


Nick Thompson

Nick has specialised in Employee Engagement and Customer Engagement research since 1989.

Before joining ENGAGE he was EMEA Survey Practice Leader for IBM Kenexa where he set up their first Employee Engagement function outside of the USA. Prior to that he spent eight years at The Gallup Organization working on some of the first Employee Engagement programmes in Europe. He has also worked for ORC, Hay Group and the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association.

Nick has worked on client engagements with organisations in all market segments including B&Q, Comet, HSBC, Lloyds, Northern Trust, Philips, Nokia, DP DHL, Allianz, Thales, Aviva, Unilever, Moss Bros, Ciena, Vodafone, Novartis, GSK, Mars and Nestle. He has spent significant periods of time working in Asia, the USA and across Europe.

Nick holds a BSc in Applied Sociology and Social Research from the University of Leicester where he then spent two years on his post-graduate work at Centre for Labour Market Studies.

He lives in Ilkley, West Yorkshire and outside of work enjoys cycling, mountaineering and running; all activities designed to avoid spending time alone with his children.


Andrea Gwilliam

Andrea is a senior communications professional who has worked for a range of blue chip clients in her 25-year career. She is accomplished at advising the C-Suite on a broad range of strategic communication issues, especially when organisations are changing their business models or management teams, or are affected by reputational issues.

Andrea has held senior communication roles at the BBC, Thomson Reuters, Deutsche Bank and British Airways and has also advised clients at News UK, Chime Communications and Williams Lea.

For the past five years she has successfully run her own consultancy practice advising Board Directors on best practice corporate communication strategies, change management and employee engagement. She also offers a coaching and mentoring service to individual clients.

Andrea is a Partner at the executive recruitment firm Broome Yasar and is a member of Bangor University's Development Council.

Andrea is a fanatic of antique hunting, especially for furniture and art from the early to mid 20th Century. She is also keen golfer and loves spending time in her native Scotland, walking and supporting Scotland in the 6 Nations rugby.

Sarah Jordan

Managing Director

Sarah is the co-founder and Managing Director at ENGAGE. Previously Head of Research and Analytics, she has been with ENGAGE since 2008 and, in 2013, co-led an MBO of the Research and Consulting division of the firm. She started her career at YouGov Plc where she worked within the social and political research team, the CEO’s innovation unit and the organisational research and consulting team.

With over 15 years of experience in employee engagement research, Sarah has worked on a wide variety of large-scale UK and international programmes with clients including A&O, Aviva, ABI, BBC, BDO, BT, Camelot, Centrica, Co-op, Diageo, Direct Line Group, Ernst & Young, First Group, G4S, Grant Thornton, HBO, innocent, McCain, Merlin Entertainments, Microsoft, Moss Bros, MSCI, Musgrave Group, O2, Sainsbury’s, Standard Chartered, Travis Perkins Group, Vodafone and Zurich.

At ENGAGE, Sarah has the enviable role of the day-to-day management of the business, leading on L&D to ensure we really unlock the potential of our talented team, driving our innovation programme and, as a priority, working directly with a range of clients to develop the best solutions to their engagement challenges. Sarah's expertise is in designing effective feedback programmes through which to deliver action-oriented, business-focused engagement research and advice.

Sarah has an MA in International Governance & Public Policy and a BA in Politics & Philosophy, both from the University of Manchester. In her spare time, Sarah is most at home by the sea. She tries to stay fit (on a bicycle these days) but only really as a necessary response to her love of fine wine and cheese!

Michael Frantl

Senior Research Executive

Mike leads on the delivery of high quality research and consulting to our clients, managing all phases of the delivery process across our three practice areas. He has lived and worked in both the US and Europe and has a strong passion for improving the performance of organisations though their people.

Mike has worked with a wide range of clients including Direct Line Group, G-Adventures, HBO Europe, innocent, JHC, Microsoft, Moss Bros., MSCI and Vodafone.

Prior to joining ENGAGE, Mike worked for the US Federal Courts. He joined ENGAGE through our internship scheme while completing his master’s degree and has been with the organisation ever since. He has an MSc. in Organisational Behaviour from Birkbeck University, London and a BA (Honours) in Political Science and Philosophy from Loyola University, Chicago where he also completed graduate coursework in statistics and research methodology.

Outside of ENGAGE Mike enjoys hiking, travelling and anything that takes him outdoors. Originally from Wisconsin, he enjoys playing and watching American football and is a proud Green Bay Packers fan.

Kate Ford

Business Manager

As the Business Manager at ENGAGE Kate looks after the smooth running of the business on a day-to-day basis. She manages all our administration, financial operations, office management and supplier relations and previously worked in a similar role at Edelman, the world’s largest independent PR firm.

Prior to this, Kate worked in the events and the music festival industry for five years. She held the position of Head of UK Press and Marketing for Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, and Communications Assistant for all other music festivals organised by Vince Power; projects and events which took place in both the UK and Europe.

Kate holds a BA (Honours) in Photography from Nottingham Trent University, and with her keen design eye, heads up our marketing, design and innovation projects.

Outside of ENGAGE Kate is a trustee for her local soup kitchen charity and is a keen runner - she can be spotted jogging the streets of Walthamstow on most weekends.

Clare Cohen

Clare is a Chartered Business Psychologist with an MSc in Psychometrics and a Post-Graduate qualification in Coaching. She has enjoyed more than 20 years of international coaching and consulting experience, including athree-year assignment in Brazil. She has worked across sectors spanning professional services, IT and finance to media and retail, with clients such as Morgan Stanley, Virgin Media, e-bay, KPMG, PWC, FCA, Prudential, Bank of England, Citi, Coutts, The Guardian and CRUK.

Her current work comprises mainly of Board and Director-level Leadership development programs, including team and individual coaching as well as running bid, promotion and event-preparation coaching. Formerly, during her time as a resident internal Executive Coach at KPMG, she coached directors and partners through promotions and relocations, tough client bids and engagements, restructures and other challenging change agendas.

Her coaching model and approach is grounded in sound psychological principles but also draws upon perspectives offered by Positive Psychology, Neuroscience, Vertical Leadership, OD, Somatics and Mindfulness practice.

Key areas of Clare's coaching practice include navigating political and board dynamics, relationship and influencing skills, strengthening self-confidence and resilience, improving impact and presence, building authenticity and enhancing creativity, innovation and performance. She helps to build high performing teams, working with both individual leaders and their teams to surface conflict safely and enhance team communication and effectiveness. She also works with emerging and transitioning leaders, executives moving into partner or board roles, as well as those relocating overseas or repatriating to the UK.

Henry Dack

Henry is highly experienced in both the development and implementation of Confirmit solutions for large and multi-national organisations.

With a background working at a range of telecoms and software vendors, Henry has almost 20 years' experience leading teams and working with end clients to deploy a range of business-led technology solutions. Clients include organisations across multiple sectors such as retail and corporate banking, human resources, insurance, high tech and consultancies.

Since joining Confirmit, Henry has worked with a number of our leading clients to help deliver successful technology and methodology partnerships in both the short and long term. Recent projects have included: working with a leading retail bank to deliver an FCA-regulated feedback solution; multiple deliveries of NPS-based projects to retail banking clients across Europe and North America; and the implementation of a global solution for a leading training organisation, supporting 43 languages in 121 countries.

Andy brings rich experience as an award-winning international HR, learning, talent and organisational development leader, having held senior roles at The Rank Group, the BBC, Hewlett Packard, BDO and latterly as Global Director of Learning and Organisational Development at Xchanging.

During his career, Andy has pioneered the introduction of technology-enabled learning and built a reputation for implementing high impact and innovative development solutions. His unique approach to leadership and management development ensures that business benefit is always at the forefront of the design process and, through the learning and coaching activities he has led, can point to millions of pounds worth of added business value.

Andy has also led significant improvement in employee engagement in several blue-chip organisations and has run many successful organisational change programmes and integrations to support business growth.

Andy is a qualified Team Performance Coach, a Fellow of The Learning and Performance Institute and accredited in many psychometric tools. In his consulting career, he has developed a real interest in team development, working with executive teams, functional teams and management teams across sectors such as technology, professional services, financial services, hospitality and media, applying his own bespoke process to improve performance every time.

Andy loves loud music and great food (in that order). He lives in a 400-year-old house in Buckinghamshire and has a frustrating lack of DIY capability.

Nicola Lockyear

Partner

Nicola is a marketing consultant and runs her own business, Lockyer Marketing. She works with ENGAGE to deliver our corporate marketing plan, which includes creating and sharing thought leadership content, supporting our events calendar, extending our social media reach and working with Kate on a range of web and corporate initiatives.

A motivated and proactive B2B marketer, Nicola has extensive strategic, budget and project management experience but remains fully 'hands-on' to ensure work gets delivered and is tracked from inception to completion. Particularly skilled in content marketing and copy writing, Nicola translates business features and functions into written material and digital content that engages customers and prospects across a range of media.

Nicola has delivered a wide range of strategic marketing projects for organisations across the technology, telecoms, customer experience, employee experience, digital marketing and public sectors. Prior to establishing Lockyer Marketing, Nicola developed her skills through a range of senior PR agency and in-house roles, most recently at Confirmit. She is equally at home working on focused, individual projects, or across teams and departments at a global, national and local level.

Outside of work, Nicola has two daughters and has therefore had no choice but to become a fan of Little Mix, the Kardashians and all sorts of awful reality television.

Rob Shorrick

Rob is a founder and Director of The Leadership Gallery. He has held a variety of senior leadership roles as a member of the Executive Committees of Lexis Nexis International, Selex Galileo SpA and BAES Avionics Group, as well as Board membership of Giuffre SpA, Mori SpA, Board of Trustees Selex Pension Scheme and the Centre for Self-Managed Learning.

Rob has worked throughout the world with predominantly large, global corporations. He is primarily focused on organisational leadership, executive team effectiveness and leading teams and organisations through change. He has worked with various unions in the UK and Italy on partnership, change and pensions projects, and has helped to align teams around common goals and the application of strategic learning solutions and collaborative learning approaches.

Rob has an MSc in Manager Development from Roffey Park Institute/Salford University and is on the Editorial Advisory Board for ‘Development and Learning in Organisations’. His consulting experience ranges across many organisations including: BAES Plc, RELX Plc, Amadeus IT Group, Weir Group Plc, FDM Group Plc, NHS, Bart’s Health NHS Trust, AXA PPP Healthcare, Pitney Bowes Inc., Leonardo SpA, Boral Group, Havas Media, Informa Plc, Aliaxis and Thales.

Pete Thomas

Pete has over 25 years of organisational development experience, working successfully across a wide range of sectors and cultures at country, international and group level. He currently owns and runs two consultancies, Advance 63 and his new venture TEAMFIT which focuses on developing exceptional team performance – a powerful yet rare commodity.

Pete previously held roles of Director of Leadership & Talent at BT Group, Head of Group Organisational Capability at TfL, Head of People & Organisational Development at Novartis and European Development Manager for a GE business. He has consulted with clients organisations in the oil and gas, professional services, financial services, retail and healthcare industries.

Having worked across very different environments, Pete has gained a vast range of experience helping teams and organisations improve their capability and performance through focused organisational development, leadership, talent and cultural change interventions. Passionate about adding value through insights and innovative thinking, Pete is business focused with a style that is both engaging and challenging. With a natural ability to build strong relationships, he works both strategically and operationally to deliver real business value.

Pete has an MSc in Organisational and People Development from Roffey Park/Sussex University.
